I’ve always struggled with winter.
I don’t like driving in snow, I can’t stand being cold, and I find it so sad when the days dwindle down to getting dark before 5pm. When flowers die, and the leaves all fall, and animals begin hibernating — that’s when I usually call it quits on an outdoor season and hunker down for a long winter.
The past few years, however, I have tried to make a conscious effort to get outside more after the leaves fall.
Lately, as winter is creeping up on Central Ohio, I am focusing on finding the beauty in the decay. Lately, as it seems like life is unraveling around us, I am focusing on finding the love in our lives. No matter how much death you see in the winter, there is always a blue sky just behind it. No matter how much hatred you notice in the world, there is always more kindness to be found.
The world doesn’t stop existing, and nature doesn’t stop being beautiful just because the leaves fall and the chipmunks hibernate. Let’s make a collective effort this winter to keep searching for beauty, embracing love, and finding adventure whenever we can — even if it means getting a little cold sometimes.
Let’s make a collective effort to focus on the Blue Skies, to prevent the Winter Blues.
